What is a Social Firm?

A Social Firm is a type of social enterprise set up specifically to create good quality jobs for people disadvantaged in the labour market. Their key defining features are the ability to make more than 50% of their income from trade, and to employ a workforce of which at least a quarter have a severe disadvantage in the labour market. Social Firms must also subscribe to a set of core values (available from the Social Firms UK website at www.socialfirmsuk.co.uk).

What is a Work Integration Social Enterprise (WISE)?

A WISE is a type of social enterprise that has a specific focus on helping move people with disadvantages into employment, whether through job creation within the organisation or other opportunities outside the enterprise.
